Old fashioned wedding???

I am getting married to the most amazing guy ever on May 16th, 2009. I having a lot of trouble planning my wedding. My mother died when I was 16 and she was the only other girl in my family that could have helped me plan my wedding. So I am basically on my own. I really want an old-fashioned wedding in a garden. I have already found the perfect wedding dress http://images.andale.com/f2/106/116/1025...

What I am having trouble doing is finding bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid dresses. I also don't know what the colors of my wedding should be. I want something romantic, my flowers will be red roses. What are some nice bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid dresses that will go with me dress? And what are good colors and a good theme? The only place to buy bridesmaid and jr. bridesmaid dresses are at David's Bridal because that is the only place around here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much!!!

Old fashioned wedding???
Make the bridesmaid's dresses the same color as the sash on the flower girl's. The link you provided says that color is watermelon, and you can include that in your search on the david's website.
Reply:This isnt very old fashioned

but I thought this would match the flowergirl's dress

Reply:One option is to just pick out a color at David's and have your bridesmaids pick out a dress to their liking. It can be in whatever price range they choose to spend and will be a dress that they feel flatters them (very much appreciated by bridesmaids).

Just tell them the specific color that you want from David's selection and possibly the hemline length (if you want coctail length or to the floor).
Reply:I dont think that weddings need themes myself. It should be focused on you two not a perticular theme.

Maybe you can get the maids measurments and buy a dress online from somewhere that not everyone goes and have a better selection.

Ebay???
Reply:I can understand the trouble you will have planning your wedding by yourself, my mother died when I was 9 and I will probably be planning my wedding on my own (when I get to that point). However, I think I can give you a few suggestions. One of my friends is getting married at the end of this year and she has been planning her wedding for almost a year now. She has changed the color of her bridesmaid dresses atleast three times, so do not feel bad when you will do the same lol...I am the maid of honor and I just went to try my dress on at David's Bridal. They have very lovely dresses, if you get a chance throughout the day (like at work) just flip through their catalogue and pick out a few that peek your interests and also talk to the ladies that will be in your wedding and ask them what they would like to wear. My friend did a few different designs for us (and a special one for the maid of honor). Just take your time and shop around, I'm sure you will find the perfect design. Since its going to be old fashion and during the summer, maybe try a lavendar (just a suggestion).
Reply:try having the bridal party go to David's and try on different dresses to see what one will go the closer to the wedding dress, in May lighter colors are better with the spring time
Reply:It would be so helpful for you to get a wedding coordinator mind you I am a little bias about that.

Dresses - can't answer different selections from place to place.

However regarding your colors you have to choose something you love - not just want you think it should be. Red roses go with everything.

I would suggest however if you are having a garden theme to then look at the environment. The flowers, grass, nature - you can really compliment the dresses by having it flow with your garden them. Pinks, browns, yellows, greens would look really nice. Just try to keep your colors to a choice of 1 or 2 colors maximum as to avoid over doing it.

Good luck
Reply:Try a nice dark color like Chocolate in the below dress. If the link doesn't work, just copy and paste it in your browser address line.

Your dress is gorgeous and very formal, so I think the bridesmaids should also be formal. The dress I picked would be figure flattering to most women.
Reply:Your dress is gorgeous.

The bridesmaid dress you've suggested is nice. Here's another couple ideas that I think would complement the shape of your dress.

I'm not a big fan of champagne myself. Although it can be very elegant, it can also make many people look very wahsed out. Consider a colour with a bit more depth.
Reply:i got married jun eof 2004 and my colors were lilac and i had woman in my family in my wedding or u can ask ur friends to be in it... popular colors for ur wedding could be lilttle pink, little blue, a green, have a great wedding...where do u live what state
Reply:Hi and congratulations!

Your gown is absolutely beautiful! Very elegant.

I just love this bridesmaid gown from David's Bridal. It reminds me of "old fashioned" because it's taffeta. Years ago (50's), that is what the bridesmaids dresses were made out of. I guess it's coming back! Anyway, I love this dress and the color. It is different than the usual colors now and I think it would look great in a garden wedding. Just my ideas, though. There is a complimentary flower girl dress listed also. Here is the link:

Reply:congrats on your upcoming wedding and for having such great taste! as for your mum, sweetie, she is watching you and will be right there with you on your wedding day! she is in your heart!

now on to your wedding - that is an absolutely beautiful gown. put your bridal attendants in tea-length cocktail dresses with a slightly flared skirt similar to your gown. junior bridesmaids in pretty full skirted dresses!

your theme is your old-fashioned wedding. what about putting the bridesmaids in ashes of roses or dusty rose? that is a very old-fashioned colour. your accent colour could be cooking apple green, another old-style colour. put your junior girls in a print dress with the bridesmaids dress colours in it!

if i could make a suggestion, and i hope you don't mind, instead of roses, because you are wanting an old-fashioned garden wedding, what about a bouquet of mixed spring flowers? gerbera daisies, lily of the valley, tulips, carnations, and a rose or two.

i love your idea of an old-fashioned garden wedding, it brings to mind romance, and beautiful lawns and colourful flowerbeds! ladies in pretty spring dresses and gracious living!

wishing you the very best wedding possible!
Reply:OH my gosh! That is my dress! Wow! Great choice...I just bought it a week ago! What color sash are you using for that dress? Or none at all? I think red roses will be beautiful...a champagne color would be nice with red. Good luck and congrats!
Reply:your dress and the flower girl dresses are beautiful, but i dont really like the bridesmaid dress.

I think it would be lovely if you got the flowergirl dress with the band colored "honeydew" or "pearl pink", those two would be a great combo for your wedding colors.

bouqeuets with light pink flowers, maybe sweet peas, babies breath and light green died carnations OR sweet pea bundles tied with a honeydew colored ribbon would be lovely.

good luck with the wedding congrats!
Reply:This site has some beautiful dresses. Maybe it will give you some ideas.
Reply:First of all, Congratulations on your special day! Secondly, be assured that your Mom is with you every step of the way and so very proud of you!

You didn't say how old your jr. bridesmaid is as you should take that into consideration for the style of the dress. If she's high school age a more sophisticated look would be nice to maybe wear again for prom or fancy dance at school. A younger one would mean a more "covered" or sweet look, yet fancy. Tea length for all girls would be a nice idea, too. That's a dress just at the calf length.

As far as colors - have you thought of a pastel rainbow? That is a pretty look with the girls wearing a color to compliment their skin tones. The romantic look can come in through the style of the dress. Maybe you could ask the planner at David's for a few hints or ideas and keep in mind the cost to your girls. They may be able to guide you in a direction to compliment your lovely dress.

I wish you happiness and blessings on your wedding.

Good luck!
Reply:I feel your pain in regards to the dresses and the colors. Since it is in a garden in May, why not have your bridesmaids, at least two, go with you to pick out dresses so at least you have a general idea of what will flatter them. Maybe even have them each wear a different color, but stick to the spring theme. Double check online for dresses, you can always try Macy's, Dillards, Bloomingdales or even Sears, take ino consideration that prom season is beginning come January so there should be an array of things to choose from. My wedding is going to be at a local university with the reception at the Botanical Garden, so I am choosing to keep decorating simple, so the garden will be the main source of beauty. Best of luck and congrats lady oh and that dress is beautiful.....loveeeee it!
