How in the heck do I bustle this wedding dress? Help!?

I have this wedding dress- and it looks amazing on, but I need to bustle it for the reception.

It is Oleg Cassini CV008, originally issued in Fall 2004.

How on earth do I do that without making it look like flowers are crawling up my behind? Also, has anyone tried the tailor services offered at David's Bridal? Are they any good?

Thanks soo much!

(If anyone happens to have and want to sell the matching tiara to this dress, let me know!)

How in the heck do I bustle this wedding dress? Help!?
When you go to the seamstress to get the bustles put on, make sure you take whoever is gonna put it up for you at the wedding, my daughter wasn't with me at the seamstress and had a heck of time figuring it out....
Reply:I'm a professional dressmaker, and I've bustled ALOT of wedding dresses.

First of all, DON'T go to David's Bridal. They're expensive, that's how they make their money--you certainly don't think it's selling those $99 dresses--they make their $$ in alterations and accessories that you can always get someplace else, for much less money. Go to your local fabric store, and ask at the cutting counter for names and numbers of dressmakers who handle wedding dresses. You can also ask at a local bridal salon for a reliable dressmaker who can add the bustle.

I would never tell someone over the internet after seeing only a photograph of the dress how to bustle the dress. I need to see the dress, on the bride, before I get an idea of what to do. There's just way too many variables involved, so take the dress to a professional and I'm sure it will be bustled so that you don't have flowers crawling up your behind! ;-)

p.s. If you don't mind, I'm going to use that expression from now on--it's great!
Reply:I love the dress !

Doesn't it have the hooks already sewn to it ? if not, you could have one large hook on the one side of the dress that will pull the flowers on an angles to your waist.

About the tiara I wouldn't go with the flower s anymore it's going to be too much and you will look like Mother Nature!

Go for a small Rhine stone and beads , the dress already has those Incorporated .
Reply:I think David's Bridal does sell Oleg Cassini so they may be familiar with the dress. They usually charge $$$ for alterations though so I could find a bridal shop in town who can do it or recommend a seamstress who can.
Reply:I had no clue what bustling was until I went to have my dress altered and the seamstress told me that I needed to bustle it for the reception. I would definitely take it to an expert and let them decide the best way to do it.
Reply:I agree with the first answerer. You will spend less $$ and get better results if you have the dress done at a tailor that specializes in formal dresses. Places like David's Bridal charge an exorbitant amount for alterations--I needed my dress shortened and House of Brides wanted $250 (and it was simple with no beading to remove); the tailor charged $90 and it looked perfect. I know the tailors work on bustling all the time. Get their advice.
Reply:You could have a beautiful silk flower seen on it half way up with a hidden eye hook, then at the top of the embroidery have a small eye ring sewn in. Then when you're at your reception you just hook it up. Amazing dress by the way.
Reply:I personally like the french bustle, however that might be what you mean by "flowers crawling up my behind'. I don't recommend David's Bridal, they are VERY expensive for simple alterations.
Reply:If the dress has been worn, it probably already has the extras that are added for the bustle. Which means you should be able to find some hooks, or buttons, or loops or something on the back of the dress. If the dress has been worn, I would contact the seller of the dress and ask them. If the dress hasn't been worn, see the first answer to your question.
Reply:Take it to a bridal shop, and have the experienced seamstress do it for you.

And take someone with you, who can learn how to do it at the reception.
