Would it be dumb to have the flower girl dresses have the same detail as the bride?

Would it be dumb to have the flower girl dresses have the same detail as the bride?
No, in fact traditionally, the flower girls dress is suppose to be a replica of the bride's dress, she is suppose to symbolize the innocents of the bride.
Reply:NO NOT AT ALL !!!!
Reply:no lots of bride do it and it looks beautiful in the pictures too
Reply:many people have the flower girl in a dress like the bride it looks great in pictures
Reply:NO
Reply:Not at all. Actually, some dress manufacturers make flower girl dresses to match the bride's (but a kiddie version, higher neckline, straps if there aren't any on the gown, etc.). My flower girl's dress was adorned with the lace off the shawl that came with mine that I didn't want to wear because the company didn't make a flower girl dress that matched my gown (of course, the next year, they did). Anyway, everyone commented on how wonderful it looked.
Reply:no it would look cute! but it should be alittle different- ex, pink floers instead of white or no lace trimmig

good luck :)
Reply:No!.... Cause That is usually the way it is she is like a mini you thats is why its cute to have the flower girl looking like you do!
Reply:I am in the process of planning my wedding, and this is what I am looking for. I want the flower girl to have the same details as my dress. I haven't seen a lot of weddings done like this, probably due to the fact that it is difficult to match the two. But when it is done, it is soooo beautiful. I say go for it:)
Reply:ya
Reply:Your gown is very pretty! In a wedding of my nephew where my son was the ring bearer, the flower girl was a mini of the bride, and it was awesome!
Reply:They make flower girl dresses to match the bride on purpose. It is your choice.
Reply:The details are not an issue, but the dresses are meant to compliment and show off the bride on her special day. As long as the bride still feels like she stands out, then go for it. Good luck!
Reply:Some people like it that way. It's just personal preference.
Reply:Thats perfectly acceptable, and looks nice :)
Reply:I would think that is the brides decision and if she wants this then it is fine.
Reply:No, most are either similar to the brides (white) or the same color as the bridesmaids.
Reply:Yes. She's supposed to be spay-shul on her spay-shul day.
Reply:It is not dumb.It is a lovely idea. On the other hand, my dress is strapless so I wanted my flower girl to have more coverage. I know that she was supposed to resemble me in some way but i was considerin the fact that she is a little girl so I put her in a sleeveless dress with decoration similar to mine..

Good luck!!
Reply:No. Not at all. It's your wedding and you can do exactly what you want.

That blue dress is beautiful.
Reply:OH my that is soo freaken cute. Your making me want a flower girl!!!
Reply:it is your day you have what you want, there are not set rules just as long as you and your groom are happy that is all that matters
Reply:NO WAY!!!!
Reply:i dont think so. just without the vail. little girls are the cutest.!
Reply:No, that's fine.
Reply:No, I think that it would look cute. =)
Reply:no thats cute
Reply:Yes, consider that the flower girl's parents will have to pay for her dress if she wants to be in the wedding. First of all, they have to pay for an already ridiculously priced dress which their daughter will only get to wear once in her whole life. Also, the little girls will probably grow out of them within several months anyway and therefore they won't be used anyway. Why would you want to put the burden on buying a dress with even more detail at an even greater price just to match the bride? It's better to let them find a simpler dress that their little girl might be able to use again.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:no...it'll look cute!!!

Wedding song help please?!?

I'm getting married in 27 days! I have everything together, but I'm having a bit of a hard time finding the perfect song.

I was thinking of having one song to signal people to be seated. And then, we're probably just going to have one processional song for the whole bridal party.

Will a 5-minute song be long enough to escort the bridal party? (There are 2 bridesmaids, 2 groomsmen, 1 ring bearer, 2 flower girls, my parents, his parents, and the officiant.)

Here are the ones that I've found so far:

*Crazy Love by Van Morrison or maybe Brian McKnight

*The Wedding Song by Peter, Paul, %26amp; Mary

*The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli

*All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera

*Somewhere from West Side Story

*For the Love of A Princess from Braveheart

What other songs do you like? I cannot stand Sugarland or Big and Rich, whatever you call them. I don't really want anything country/reggae/latin. Thank you for your help!!! :D

Wedding song help please?!?
I think that Crazy Love would be the coolest out of any of them. You can't go wrong with van Morrison!
Reply:At last, Ella Fitzgerald

Reply:I think canon in D is the only song to walk in to, and no, it won't take you but 2 or 3 minutes to all get down the aisle.

that song is soo pretty
Reply:the song to signal people to sit "pop goes the weasel"

the perfect song to escort the bridal party. "i like big butts"

then as you go down the isle play the funeral song they play at the army.

and then for rest of songs a compilation of music from madonna, pink, michael jackson, depeche mode, duran, duran.duran and cindy lauper.

also for the dance with your dad have them play "i';ll be watching you"

and for the dance with your husband have them play "money" by led zepplin
Reply:I love "All I Ask Of You" from Phantom and have always thought it would make a great wedding song. Also, Somewhere from "West Side Story" I think one five minute song will be long enough. Are the groomsmen walking the bridesmaids down the aisle? Anyway, fiver minutes is plenty of time. Try it at the rehearsal dinner to be sure. Good luck!

Baby Shower Ideas?

My best friend of the past 10 years is expecting her first child in September. Her husband is in the marines and is deploying in August, so I want to do the shower before he leaves. I was thinking mid-July. She doesn't know the baby's sex yet.

What are some good ideas (and examples of decorations) either way?

I went to a tea luncheon a few weeks back and LOVED it. I thought maybe it would be cool for the shower? I do want it to be feminine and relaxing for her.

Besides my friend and myself, her mom, sister, and about 12 friends will be there (hopefully).

Is there something I could ask everyone to bring besides their gifts, that is cheap (we had a bridal shower for a friend and everyone brought a packet of flower seeds so they could have a garden at their new house)?

I was thinking of everyone writing a note of parenting advice and putting them in a little box for her at the shower.

What are good foods to serve? I want something light.

Baby Shower Ideas?
Decorations? I love a rubber-ducky theme, very cute and it can be for either a boy or girl.

Everyone brought a book (instead of a greeting card) to my baby shower and my sister-in-laws. They put a little poem with the invitations in lieu of greeting cards buy a book to start a library with, (something along those lines, can't remember it off hand, I am sure you can find something on line).

Your idea is very nice also, you can put the notes in a keep sake box.

Foods, I would make mini sandwiches, salads, few pasta dishes and cake.

Enjoy planning your party!
Reply:We did a necklace for my friends shower. Everyone brings a bead ( or you can supply them). YOu pass a chain or srting around and each woman places the bead on the chain and gives the mommy to be some advice to go with it. She can bring the chain to the hospital to have while she is in labor.
Reply:Decorations could be a combination of pink and blue. Or green and yellow. Pink and blue sends a pretty clear message that you don't know the sex of the baby yet.

Games could be really fun and relaxing for her as well as the other guests.

You could draw a huge diaper on a piece of paper and pin it up. Play pin the poo on the diaper!

Guess Baby's weight is also a good game.

You could also play "baby." where everyone goes as long as possible without saying the word baby.

"Smell the diaper" and guess it's contents. Fun sniffing game! You could put mustard in one, chocolate syrup in one, as long as it has a smell :)

A suggestion for the extra gift- a pack of diapers! They are pretty cheap and mom will really, really appreciate it. Or have everyone bring a meal they prepared at home that mom can freeze to help her stay out of the kitchen for a few days.

Or- volunteer cards. Have everyone volunteer to do something for mom. "One free load of laundry." One free nap." "Dinner at my house."

I am big on the volunteer cards because they really help out the new mom with things that she will need to do and might not have the time.

Foods: Have a cook out! Burgers and hot dogs for everyone! And in case there are any vegetarians have veggie burgers.

And have a cake. Something baby oriented and really cute.

Edit:

I love the gag gift idea!!

How about a gift for mom and mom alone, like a gift card to her favorite store? Or a really nice bath set with bubble bath, lotions and creams in it?

Just throwing ideas out :)
Reply:Ask everyone to bring 1 baby care item (bath wash, diapers, lotion, powder, etc.) for the baby and have a basket by the front door for everyone to put their items in. My sisters did this for me and I probably won't have to buy any soaps, lotions, or powders for a year!

Another cute idea is for everyone to write a note to the baby so the parents can put all of the notes in a scrapbook and give it to their child when they are old enough to read.

A tea luncheon would be really nice! Usually at something like that you would have little finger sandwiches (chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad, etc.)

Good luck!

If you and your FI are paying for the wedding rehersal dinner?

Who do you pay for? The bridal party only, or everyone that comes?

So far there are 12 people in our bridal party, not including us. And i figured it is normal to have your parents and in my case my parents are both remarried so they will bring their spouses, then his mom, and my grandparents. he doesnt have any grandparents. Do i pay for all these people as well as the bridal party and there significant others, or in the case of the ring bearer and the flower girl, do i pay for both parents if they are not in the bridal party?

Please help i dont know how this is supposed to work. What would be the proper ettiquette, and how do you word the invite??

Oh and one more thing, when do you start look for a place to hold her Rehersal dinner?

If you and your FI are paying for the wedding rehersal dinner?
Hi and congratulations!

Yes, you pay for everyone that is invited to the rehearsal dinner. You have it exactly right of who is to be invited:

~ Everyone involved IN the wedding (bridesmaids and groomsmen) AND their spouse or significant other. If they are single, you don't have to have them bring a date, unless you want them to.

~ Flower girl and ring bearer and their parents.

~ Parents on both sides.

Since you are paying, it is up to you if you want to include your grandparents. Some do....some don't.

If you are getting married in a church, it is a nice courtesy to extend an invitation to the minister and his wife. Sometimes they come, sometimes they don't. This, however, IS NOT mandatory.

It is also not mandatory to include out of town family, unless you want to.

As far as an invitation. For my son's wedding, I just printed something up on very nice stationary (available at Target, Michael's, Walmart, etc.)

Please join us at the rehearsal dinner to honor

Pamela Ann Johnson

and

Brian Thomas Smith

on Friday evening, October 10th

Six o'clock in the evening

Huron Mountain Golf Course

111 Seventh Street

You can make up fancier ones if you want. It's up to you!

Good luck.
Reply:You pay for the whole shot, dinner and drinks.

Yes, that includes spouses of married attendants, and the parents of the ring bearer and flower girl.
Reply:You would pay for everyone at the rehersal dinner. It is proper to invite the bridal party, close family, and anyone from out of town that flew in for the wedding.
Reply:you have to pay for everyone you invite. you cant just invite people to a rehersal dinner and make them pay for themselves, even if they arent in the wedding. keep the number of people you invite to a minimum if cost is an issue. depending on how many people you plan to have, I would start looking at least a month or so in advance...probably sooner.
Reply:EVERYONE- try to find a place that serves family style and is BYOB to keep the cost down. Also you establish a set menu that you can afford- don't just let people order anything they want. You have total control of the menu so you can feed them what you can afford. Also you can have it at your house or someone else house if you can't afford a restaurant.
Reply:You should pay for everyone invited to the rehearsal dinner. This includes the bridal party and your immediate families. You can include dates for the bridal party, but it's not required. I would also include the parents of the flower girl %26amp; ring bearer.
Reply:We're including our bridal party, their significant others, the pastor and his wife, parents and grandparents. We wanted to include out-of-towners but we already invited 30 people for the rehearsal and decided that it would be too many.

According to one of my checklists, you're supposed to start looking for a place about 4-5 months before your wedding date.
Reply:You would have to pay for everyone invited. Also you really dont need to send invites, it's more of a word of mouth invitation for the rehersal dinner. You can start looking as early as you want, but it shouldnt be too hard to find a place as it will often take place on a weekday.
Reply:My fiance's parents offered to pay for it. I wish now that they didn't because they are inviting all sorts of random friends.
Reply:If you invite someone, you have to pay.

What you can do is, find a place you can afford to feed all these people.

Gently explain that it's only for the bridal party.

Give it yourself. (That is, feed them all, without having it at a commercial establishment.)

Hit your parents up for financial help.

Those are the choices I see.
Reply:First off, it is never too early to look for a place to host your dinner. Most places will take reservations for this important event months in advance.

Secondly, yes edict state you should pay for all invites to the rehearsal dinner, even parents and grandparents. I know it sounds like a lot, but remember, they are there for your rehearsal and might not have otherwise dined out that night. In most cases if the brides parents are paying for the wedding then the father of the groom pays for the rehearsal dinner. If this is not feasible by the FOTG then the bride and groom are responsible for the feast.

Good Luck! :)

Limo or no Limo?

Should we get a limo for our entire Bridal party or just a car for us?

The distance between Church and Photo location and Hall is a 3 mile radius with driving distance of 5 minuets MAX.

We Have:

5 brides maids

5 Groomsmen

2 Jr Bridesmaids

2 Jr Grooms men

Flower Girl and Ring Bearer

total: 18 people

Limo or no Limo?
I think you wanta car for yourselves....I mean you JUST GOT MARRIED and you want to be able to take that all in TOGETHER.

Bes of luck

JAG
Reply:With 18 people you'd have to get a big stretch limo, maybe one of those stretch Hummers. You'll end up paying a lot of money for a 5 minute ride. And if the bridal party is leaving their cars at the church how are they getting back?

If you do get the limo I suggest enjoying it a little more with a drive around before you get dropped off. Or save your money and get a car for just the two of you. It'll be a lot more romantic.
Reply:Car for you!

Limos by the way are slowly being phased out, people are getting Rolls', Bentlys, and Vintage cars for a more upscale less tacky look!
Reply:If you are trying to save money, I would say skip the limo and just get a cool car for you and your betrothed to ride in from ceremony to reception, then to the honeymoon suite. I would think most of the bridal party could carpool to and from the locations. If all the girls are getting ready together, and going to the ceremony together, then get a limo. Or, what could be even more fun is a Party Bus. Good luck!
Reply:Get one of those big stretch cars, they can fit loads of people in them!
Reply:It takes longer to get in and out of limos so it is not worth it.

If you'd like a nice car for you and spouse than that is fine but I wouldn't bother with a limo.
Reply:Well, the entire bridal party won't fit into a regular sized limo. As long as you can rely on the bridal party to get to the photo location in a timely manner (without getting lost or making pit stops) I'd just have them meet you and save the money. Otherwise, the limo may save you time.
Reply:Renting a limo for a 5 minute trip sounds like a waste of money, and that many people wouldn't fit in one limo anyway. I'd say, get a nice car for you two, then ask around about vans to transport the rest of the party. You really should take care of transporting them, and it should be nice and clean and all, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
Reply:You really should transport your wedding party from the church to the photo location - - at minimum.

If you could leave your vehicles at the Hall and be picked up to go to the church, photo location, and hall it would be very nice.
Reply:If you are only spending 5 minutes in the limo it's probably a waste in the first place.....unless you choose a huge ballgown in which case you need to room in the backseat for your skirts.

But....you don't have to get an extra one. Have the car take you to the location then drop you off. They can swing around and pick up the bridal party sort of like a shuttle. You could even have them do the same for guests while you are getting shots taken.
Reply:I just got married and the best choice is to get just you and you husband in a white stretch limo.
Reply:personally I don't like limos so I might be a little biased but I think it's silly to rent a limo for 5 minutes is ridiculous.

Help with wedding?

my wedding is in dec of next year and i already got my colors for my bridesmaid dress and maid of honor dresses.....the wedding decoration colors is going to be white and red with a little hint of green for the centerpieces...but the bridal party colors is going to be apple red (bridesmaids) and champayne gold (jr. bridesmaids and maid of honors (i have 2 of them))...my dress is going to be white of course and i'm going to be holding a red roses bouquet...can anyone gimme any ideas for the jr bridesmaids and bridesmaids....see i want to be different...my fiance gave me an idea to have the jr. bridesmaids hold like custom made bells over their arms while the bridesmaids have the matching bag with their dress filled with white petals they can drop while they want down....the flower girls is going to drop red petals...i dunno i want it to be different and unique....can i have u guys opinions of what u think....i know its my day but i want to hear u guys opinions about it...

Help with wedding?
That sounds so beautiful! I'm not sure about the custom bell thing... but I think a good idea for the jr bridesmaids would be to drop glitter snowflake confetti instead of petals... Hold on and I will try to find you some pictures of what I'm talking about :)

This is a really good site for winter wedding ideas, and since most weddings are in the spring/summer it's easy to find unique stuff :)

Here is a picture of the snowflakes... they are so pretty and unique :)

Maybe you could mix the two, like have the jr maids drop the snowflakes and the flower girls drop red and white petals.

Junior Bridesmaid..help!?

My fiance's sister is mad because I told her she won't be our flower girl because she'll be too old (she asked me if she could be, she'll be 12)

He has 2 brothers that are going to be his groomsmen.

I dont want her in my bridal party. I have issues with her. I think she's spoiled and has given me nothing but grief since I've been dating my fiance. (I've asked for advice on how to deal with her on here before too)

She cries when she doesn't get her way. And even though me and her brother have been together for a a year and a half she still gets jealous of our relationship even though he spends alot of time with her on their own. Usually if she sees us together she'll actually come up and kick me and try to pull him away from me.

I dont want to reward her behavior by having her in my wedding, and i also don't want her throwing fits at my ceremony and reception, but she'd be the only family left out and i feel a bad bc ..what should I do with her?

Junior Bridesmaid..help!?
She asked to be in your wedding party? How rude!!

You and your fiancee need to sit down and talk with her (perhaps his mother can help?). Explain to her how her behavior is the reason why you do not want her to participate. She is abusive toward you (kicking) and possessive of her brother. Tell her flat out you do not believe she can act like a lady should, so you do not want her to embarrass herself. Make sure you focus on her behavior, not on your opinion of her (even though she does sound spoiled).

She needs to understand being in a wedding party is not just a game, it's a responsibility. The wedding party is made up of people who will support the bride and groom through the wedding and beyond. Her behavior has shown you that she is not up to that responsibility.

I understand you do not want to cut her completely out because she is family. Perhaps there is some small thing she is capable of handling? Passing out programs or whatever so she is not totally excluded?

Good luck.
Reply:Tell her if she starts behaving then you will think about it, tell her the way she treats you why should you have her in it. Just tell her when she starts treating you better then you will start to think of her more often. She is old enough to understand.
Reply:Well, from your main question (Junior Bridesmaid...help?!) I'm assuming that you are considering having her as a jr bridesmaid- is that correct?

I think that would be a good position for her if you choose. You can have a serious talk with her about how this is a big responsibility etc. Then maybe she will want to act more grown up like the other bridesmaids.

If you don't want her as a jr BM, how about a candle lighter? Or guestbook attendant?
Reply:You have issues with a 12 year old? Well that kind of says something right there. Another thing that struck me reading this is, doesnt her jealous behaviour seem odd? Are there some strange family dynamics going on that you didnt mention? A 12 year old that kicks and throws fits- Ive never heard of such a thing.
Reply:Stick to your guns.....tell hubby to be to deal with his sister. It's not your problem, it's his. Don't feel bad....she hasn't felt bad about the problems she has caused for you so far, and you know there will be more to come.
Reply:Talk to her and explain why you do not want to have her in the wedding. Maybe you should have this conversation in front of her parents with your boyfriend present as well. Remember, this is your wedding day. As long as you and your b/f agree not to have her in the wedding, it is your choice! Good Luck!
Reply:Well, she's 12 years old! She's old enough to understand that her behavior has consequences. Explain to her and her parents that you don't believe she can behave like a mature person, and therefore will not be in the wedding party.
Reply:You can have her as your guest book attendant. Have her wear colors of your wedding, and have a guest book table. Ask her to stand at the table greeting people and asking them to sign the book. You should also have her walked down the isle behind the mother of the groom to make her feel special. Basically you need to be the more mature one.
Reply:she is 12! she is immature and that is why she acts like that. but you sound immature in the way that you are talking about her. you actually sound quite jealous. i think you should have her be a junior bridesmaid. what is the big deal about it? if she wants to help and have a part in the wedding maybe you two will start getting along better too.
Reply:I completely agree with you about not putting the brat in the wedding. She really is too old to be a flower girl, and if you don't want her to be a Jr. Bridesmaid, then don't let her. If she and your fiance are so close, ask him to talk to her. Get him to tell her why she can't be a flower girl, and that there are already enough bridesmaids. Then pull the "big brother" card and get him to say something like "this is a very special day for me, and I don't want you to give me a reason for me to be disappointed with you. You need to be on your best behavior, which means no throwing tantrums and making a scene. You are 12 not 2 and you know better than that". If he puts the guilt on her, it might work better than you or her parents doing it.

If you really feel like she should do something, you can let her be an usher or hand out wedding programs. That way she is helping and technically part of the wedding, but it's not a big role.
Reply:Your wedding party is supposed to be made up of people you are close to.

If I were in your situation, I would not put her in the wedding. You are right, behavior like that should not be rewarded. Even though she is still young at twelve, she should know that she shouldn't act that way.
Reply:you should tell her the truth, that you don't want her in your wedding because of the way she acts. If your wedding is a little bit off see if she changes her behavior after you talk to her and then ask her to be in the wedding (but only if things change).
Reply:You need to have your fiance talk to her about her behavior. Kicking you and acting like a brat isn't acceptable for someone's who's 4, never mind 11 years old.

If you made her a junior bridesmaid her only involvement would be to march down the aisle holding flowers and then go sit with her parents. Later she gets a few pictures snapped of her with the wedding party. All things considered, it would be an easy way to smooth over this whole issue. Her parents would have to purchase her outfit, etc.

However, before you do that you need to have an understanding between your fiance and her that she needs to act like a young lady and there will be no more brattiness. Bridesmaids need to act mature because it's an important job, etc. This is the kind of thing your fiance can say (not that it's all true, but it will help put her on the straight and narrow). It's a good way to put a carrot in front of her. She may still be jealous of you, but as a child that's pretty normal. If you act like her friend or older sister, that will help a lot.

As a junior bridesmaid she should not be involved in any of the showers or parties leading up to the wedding.
Reply:You are being so mean to a 12 year old. You were probably that bratty too. Just keep in mind that marriage is supposed to be forever. If its that important to her, just make her a jr bridesmaid. In 20 years, when she's mature and you guys are BFF (family forever) you guys will literally laugh about this time! Trust me, she'll grow up. You both will. You don't want to regret not having her in the wedding.

She is too old to be a flower girl.
Reply:You don't owe her anything especially if she is as horrid as you say. Talk to your fiance' about her behavior (the kicking and pulling hair) that has to be put to a stop ASAP. If your fiance wants to have her in the wedding then he should have her stand for him, she can wear a pretty black and white dress (reminiscent of a tux) and wear a buttonear like the guys.
Reply:Well, at 12 she is the right age for a junior bridesmaid. If his parents are upset that she isn't part of your wedding party, than you might want to keep the peace and go with that option. Then you, your finance, and his parents might want to have a discussion with her about appropriate behavior for a wedding/receptions. However, this is YOUR wedding and only you and your finance can make this decision together.

Are you as a couple paying for it or are you going with "tradition" and having your parents foot the bill? Because if its your money you can just say that for financial reasons you couldn't afford to have a huge bridal party, but you'd like her to help out in some other way, which would be understandable. Not that a 12 year old will get that.

If you decide she's not in the wedding party and she asks why, it might be time for her brother to explain to her that her immature behavior has negative consequences and this is one of them. She's HIS sister and he should be sticking up for you and putting her in her place. Don't forget she's the only girl in a family of boys and she's probably used to being the "princess" in their lives and always getting her way.

You could also try to find other ways for her to be involved in the ceremony and reception. Perhaps she could read a passage for the ceremony? By starting her out with small responsibilities she'll start to learn how to conduct herself in a more appropriate manner; though her parents should be seeing to that not you.

Whatever you decide, its your special day. Try to keep the peace with his family because they are now permanently your family too. But don't do something you feel guilt tripped into by a little brat.
